Workshop loading...! Mark your calendars for this Fall ๐Ÿ“†

We are happy to announce our upcoming Workshop Connecting  Language, Interaction and Education in Digital Environments, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, taking place September 26-27, 2017 at Penn State University - Nittany Lion Inn.

The theme of the workshop is to consider the future of digital environments in educational settings designed to engage students in their learning of academic language skills in their native language across modalities (written and spoken), and to support teachers in providing learning opportunities that can benefit from automated tools. Here language skills are taken to be a vehicle for, and reflection of, education in the various disciplines. Middle school is when the specific means of written and oral expression begin to diverge across disciplines. Thus for the workshop, we are interested in work that addresses middle school and above, for diverse kinds of students. A desired outcome of the workshop is to identify novel, promising directions that take advantage of recent advances in natural language processing and related areas to build on and extend current research in education and learning design.
